King calls for respect on away-days

Dorset Echo: WARNING: Brendon King WARNING: Brendon King

WEYMOUTH must show more respect on their travels, according to boss Brendon King.

The Terras visit Redditch United tomorrow (3pm) hoping to record their first victory on the road.

But in order to achieve that feat, King warned: “We have got to be mindful of the fact we are away from home and we have got to be more respectful when we are away.

“Last Saturday at St Neots we probably went out there thinking we would go and win the game, but you have to respect the fact you will come under more pressure away from home.”

Weymouth’s manager also echoed the sentiments of Monday’s hat-trick hero Ben Joyce, who yesterday told Echosport that the Terras must tighten up across the pitch.

King added: “We have got to set ourselves out and maybe not be so gung-ho. We need to be a lot tighter in the first half and not give the opposition a sniff, instead of chasing the game and then allowing the opposition to score.

“Going forward we look very good but when we talk about being tighter that includes everybody, not just the back four. We need to be tighter as a unit.

“If you can start nicking points away from home it sets up a good platform and takes the pressure off when you are at home.

“It’s something we have spoken about and it’s not us being negative and saying we will stick everyone behind the ball. We just need to be tighter as an 11.”

The Terras have no fresh injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s trip to the Valley, but King has warned that changes will be made if anyone fails to produce the goods.

He said: “We have a bit more quality on the bench this season so that when things are not quite happening for us, we can change it.

“People have got to do the business or someone else will get their chance. You have to perform well to keep your place.”

Like Weymouth, tomorrow’s hosts have also claimed five points from their opening four games in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.
