A NEW season of women’s football kicks off tomorrow at the Bob Lucas Stadium when Weymouth Ladies entertain their counterparts from Bristol Union (2pm).

The South West League Premier Division encounter sees the visit of the Bristol side who are widely tipped to mount a serious challenge for the title this term.

Weymouth have had an encouraging pre-season, scoring 30 goals in four matches and go into the match in good spirits and with confidence high.

The club are delighted to be back playing their home games at the Bob Lucas Stadium as this assists in raising the profile of ladies’ football.

Manager Tim Davis said: “We would like to thank Terras’ chairman Nigel Bid-dlecombe and fellow director Ralph Ricardo for their assistance as well as the ground staff who work hard to provide a good playing surface.

“Two new new home kit sponsors have come on board to support us and the match against Bristol will see Blondz emblazoned across the front of the shirts and Dorset Vehicle Rentals on the back.

“Many thanks go to Shaun Hennessy and Wendy Trot-man for their support, which is greatly appreciated.

“With the success of the Women’s Super League and Team GB in the Olympics , ladies’ football is at all-time high in this country and we would like to play a part in that development of the game.”

Admission prices for the game are £2 for adults and £1 for children under-16.

Davis added: “If you have never witnessed ladies’ football before, tomorrow is an ideal opportunity to come to the Bob Lucas Stadium and see for yourself just how good the standard is.

“Bristol are a quality team, made up of players from all over the country who attend their renowned university, so it will take a monumental effort for my players to get a result.

“If we could get a big crowd it would create a great atmosphere and it could make a massive difference.”
