BRENDON King remains wary of tonight’s opponents, insisting they lie in a “false position”.

AFC Totton, who narrowly missed out on promotion last May, moved up to 18th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on Saturday after recording their first win of the campaign – a 2-0 triumph at home to Bedford Town.

But Weymouth’s boss is not reading anything into the Stags’ slow start to the new season ahead of this evening’s clash at the Bob Lucas Stadium (7.45pm).

He said: “I think they are in a false position at the moment. Speaking to people and looking at the results, they haven’t done too badly.

“They have kept the majority of last season’s squad and added to it, so we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“They have got some very good players going forward. They have the likes of Michael Gosney and Jonathan Davies out wide, they have signed Richard Gillespie, who scores goals, and they have also got James Coutts (former Weymouth and Dorchester midfielder) in there as well.

“We are going into it under no illusions as to how tough it will be but we are looking forward to it.”

Both sides will certainly be familiar with one another after meeting four times during last season.

The ongoing battle, which yielded 17 goals in total, ended honours even with two wins apiece – the home team prevailing on each occasion – and King is expecting another entertaining affair tonight.

He added: “We had some good games against them last season so we know quite a bit about them and they know quite a bit about us.

“When you look at last season’s games there were a lot of goals scored and I don’t think it will be too different tonight. They will try and pass the ball, which should suit us, and it has the hallmarks of being a cracking game.”

An improved defensive display saw Weymouth earn a clean sheet in Saturday’s draw at Redditch United.

But with home advantage tonight, the Terras will no doubt look to take the initiative.

King said: “We spoke about certain things before Saturday’s game, which we carried out, and there will be things we will look to do differently tonight, especially as we are at home.

“We will have the same squad but we haven’t decided if we will change any personnel in the line-up and I don’t want to give anything away.”
