VINNIE-RAY Guthrie, from Chapelhay, Weymouth has become the BSMA (British Schoolboy Motocross Association) 50cc champion.

The seven-year-old rides for Corsham MX club, which is one of the 15 clubs in the BSMA that run throughout Britain.

The event was held at Stratford-upon-Avon, where he competed on his 2011 KTM 50 SX with boys up to the age of nine.

Guthrie has been competing since he was six and had his first bike, a PW 50, when he was just four-years-old.

He learnt to ride in his late grandad Butch Nash’s field and he would be proud of his grandson’s achievements.

The Holy Trinity schoolboy is Motocross mad and is at his happiest when on his bike.

He rode in the 2011 British supercross in his first year of racing and qualified for the final. This year he hopes to win it.

Guthrie has also been chosen by Ringwood Motocross Club as a wildcard into the MCF Grand Slam Final at the end of September.

He is hoping to be competing in Europe next year in international events and is looking for sponsors to help him achieve his goals.
