PORTLAND United Youth Football Club (PUYFC) held their third annual tournament at the Grove Fields.

More than 60 teams from around the county, and some from further afield, took part in the competition.

PUYFC chairman David Symes said: “I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the tournament such a success.

“Special recognition must be given to the tournament committee, tournament sponsors, referees, companies who offered help by donating equipment, parents and helpers/volunteers.

“All of whom gave up time and resources to assist us in putting on another very successful tournament.

“But mostly I would like to show appreciation to the children and parents, from all around the county, who made it such a fun and enjoyable weekend.”

This year was the first year that PUYFC had approached local businesses to sponsor the winners and runner-up trophies and under-7/8 medals.

Symes added: “Local businesses were all too pleased to get involved and support us. Our club motto is ‘United for the Community’, and they are only too pleased to buy into our community ethos.

“PUYFC is about bringing together the different communities on the island and surrounding areas, while offering the children a healthy activity that promotes team values.”
