Ashley's on the mend

Dorset Echo: ROAD TO RECOVERY: Ashley Wells with Budmouth Community Sports Centre manager Steve Churchill ROAD TO RECOVERY: Ashley Wells with Budmouth Community Sports Centre manager Steve Churchill

ASHLEY Wells is on the road to recovery and is hoping to be back in the thick of the action by the end of October.

The Weymouth full-back broke his ankle in a pre-season friendly against a Bristol City XI back on July 28 but with his cast set to be removed on Monday there is every chance he could return to light training within a fortnight.

Wells told Echosport: “All being well I am hoping to be back by the end of October.

“Everyone at the club has been fantastic and I have also been receiving a lot of support from Steve Churchill at Budmouth Community Sports Centre.

“I know Steve from my time at Portland United and he has been helping me with my rehab for the past four weeks which has been brilliant.

“Once the cast comes off on Monday I am then hoping to go swimming at the Riviera Hotel.

“As the club’s main sponsor they have also been superb. Their facilities up there are second to none in the area and there is no doubt they will also help me to return as soon as possible.”

The Terras, who travel to Totton & Eling in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup this afternoon (3pm), have lost just one of their first six games this season and Wells is confident the upturn in fortunes will continue.

He added: “It has been hard not playing but the lads have been a credit to themselves. They have been playing really well and putting in fantastic shifts.

“It is very much a new team that is still gelling and there is no doubt we are on the way up now.

“We have a great mixture of experience and youth, and the players that have come in have been fantastic and given the rest of us great support.

“Top 10 is our aim and with the squad we have got I see no reason why we cannot achieve that.”
