PHIL Simkin is confident of adding two new faces to his squad as the Magpies look to build on their record-breaking start to the season.

Dorchester Town notched their fourth win on the spin at the weekend and currently sit second in Blue Square Bet South – level on points with early leaders Salisbury City.

But with Ben Watson missing Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Chelmsford through injury, and skipper Mark Jermyn and midfielder Jamie Gleeson both limping off during the game, the county town outfit are in need of reinforcements.

Boss Simkin said: “I hope to strengthen the squad this week, before we go to Hornchurch on Saturday, with a couple of players coming in.

“One is from overseas and one is from the West Country but I can’t say anything else at the moment because it’s all up in the air.

“It’s no good waiting until things go wrong before you try and strengthen. The chairman is going to try and help us strengthen as you could see on Saturday that the squad is beginning to look a bit threadbare.

“Hopefully we will complete the signings this week.”

The Magpies are also interested in signing rising star Harry Cornick from Christchurch.

Having already issued a seven-day approach for the winger, Simkin is hopeful of speaking to the 17-year-old later this week.

However, Dorchester face fierce competition from Football League outfits such as Southampton and AFC Bournemouth.

Simkin added: “I shall speak to him this week. I have spoken to Christchurch manager Graham Kemp and he has said that the world and his wife are trying to sign Harry, which means we probably don’t stand much of a chance.

“But I will speak to him anyway as you have to try. The lad seems intent on going to university so it may well be that coming to us suits him as he’ll be able to do his studies while playing football part-time.

“I don’t have a lot of money to offer him but you have to speak to these players just in case.

“Kempy said he doesn’t want to lose him but if Harry had to go anywhere he would rather he came to us.”

Meanwhile, commenting further on the Magpies’ best ever start at this level, Simkin said: “We are still there at the top and we are there on merit.

“Everyone said we wouldn’t still be there but we are and we have beaten some good sides doing it.”
