WEYMOUTH 3

Feasey og 24, Duff 29, Smith 30

TOTTON & ELING 0

THE Terras made light work of Totton & Eling at the Bob Lucas Stadium last night to move into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The hosts were in cruise control throughout this replay while the Millers looked overawed by the whole occasion and were a shadow of the side that competed so gallantly in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw.

Brendon King made three changes to the Terras’ starting XI and also opted for a new-look 4-2-3-1 formation.

Kyle Critchell and Craig Duff returned to action and there was also a place for Lewis Clarke as Barry McConnell, Scott Dixon and Matt Groves all dropped to the bench.

Ben Joyce was given the lone forward’s role with Duff, Dan Smith and Scott Walker making up the trio just in front of the holding midfield pair of Danny Clay and Stephen Reed.

The Terras made the brighter start and soon began creating chances with Tony Harrop beating away an effort from Alex Jeannin on 10 minutes and Dan Smith firing over just a couple of seconds later.

Weymouth looked a lot more compact and they were moving the ball around well with Walker sending another shot wide and Sam Poole seeing a header nestle into the arms of Harrop.

Totton had offered very little but their stubborn defence continued to shut the hosts out.

That was until the 24th minute when Walker’s corner caused panic in the box and led to Jamie Feasey inadvertently heading into his own net.

The visitors looked shell-shocked and six minutes later they found themselves three down.

Duff grabbed the second with a far-post header from Smith’s corner on 29 minutes before the latter latched on to a pass by Ben Joyce just 60 seconds later before firing home from outside the box with the aid of a deflection.

The Terras were now popping the ball around for fun and they should have added another when the industrious Joyce teed up Duff, whose 15-yard shot flew just inches over the crossbar.

Joyce then stung the palms of Harrop with another effort on the cusp of the interval as Weymouth trudged down the tunnel in complete command.

Scott Dixon replaced Critchell at the start of the second half as King looked to protect his star defender, with Jeannin moving inside to centre-back.

The same pattern continued with Weymouth well on top and Walker continuing to be the class act.

The ex-Truro City man was enjoying the freedom of the pitch and on 52 minutes let fly with a wonderful effort from long range that just dipped over the crossbar.

Sam Carter forced Simon Evans into a rare save from a free-kick on the hour but Totton carried on playing second fiddle as Duff and Walker both threatened again with decent efforts.

As anticipated the game began to peter out and whilst it did a few lapses began to creep into Weymouth’s game causing Craig Feeney to break clean through, only to place his shot the wrong side of a post.

Duff replied with a powerful effort that flew marginally wide before King handed a debut to ex-Yeovil Town youngster Louis Smith, who replaced Stephen Reed.

Dan Smith then tested Harrop with a curling free-kick and struck a post but the damage had already been done as Weymouth cantered through the remaining minutes with consummate ease to book a tie at Basingstoke Town in the next round.
