WEYMOUTH Ladies are preparing for the new volleyball season and are now building for their opening matches.

The seaside outfit, led by coach Ian Loke, will engage in a tri-series against National League Super 8 teams London Polonia and Wessex.

The games will be played at the Oakmead School, Poole this Saturday.

The weekend will be a stiff task for the newly-reformed Weymouth squad, but with the experience gained at the recent tournament in Dorking, the squad know that if they play to their full potential, they are good enough to compete with the best teams in the country.

Already committed to the team are the Italian pairing of Rossana LoGiudice and Karen Rossi.

It is hoped that Marta Cerri will also be available.

This is dependent on her return to match fitness following a major ankle injury while playing for Weymouth at the Dorking Tourn-ament in early June.

Claire Greenwood will be assuming the middle-hitting role, with Becky Gymer leading the wing- attack.

Returning to the Weymouth squad will be setter Marla Balwin, who has played tournament volleyball for Weymouth on numerous occasions in the past.

However, missing from Weymouth’s line-up on this occasion will be opposite player Ramona Deinel, who is playing in an European competition in Austria.

Weymouth will be searching for a loan player to fill this position.

The matches will also be an opportunity to trial potential new signings.

One of these trialists could be Ashcombe Under-18 player Daisy Haynes.
