THE tag of underdogs can help the Terras spring a surprise at Basingstoke Town according to Brendon King.
The Weymouth boss initially refused to comment on Monday’s FA Cup second qualifying round draw but following last night’s 3-0 replay win over Totton & Eling, he was more than happy to air his views on what looks like a challenging trip to Camrose.
King told Echosport: “Basingstoke are in the league above so it is going to be tough but we will go there as the underdogs this time and sometimes that can work for you.
“Blue Square Bet South is where we want to be so the tie will also show me just how far away we are and what we need to improve on in order to get there.”
An own goal and efforts from Craig Duff and Dan Smith did the damage against Totton, who were unable to repeat the stubborn showing they gave in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
King added: “We changed the system slightly and I thought it worked. We moved the ball around well and some of the interchanging and movement was superb.
“The first goal is always important in games like that and once we got that we were always in control.”
