REX Buttle wants Weymouth Under-18s to enjoy the occasion tonight when they entertain Bemerton Heath in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup (7pm).

The development team will include first-team squad members Louis Smith and Charlie Holland but one notable absentee will be goalkeeper Chris Povall, who is unavailable.

Boss Buttle told Echosport: “It is a shame Chris cannot make this one but in terms of the rest of the squad things are shaping up well.

“There is a lot of ability in the ranks and several of them could have a bit of a future in the game.

“The likes of Chris, Louis and Charlie have already started to make a bit of a name for themselves and there are certainly a couple more that also have good potential.

“All I want them to do tonight though is just go out and enjoy it.

“If players are playing with smiles on their faces their quality will more often than not shine through .”

Club spokesman Iain Stone added: “Chickerell United and Portland United are both part of what we are doing with the under-18s and we would also like to say thanks to Weymouth College for the use of their training facilities.”

* Admission to tonight’s game is £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for children.
