Dorchester boss Dave Kiteley hailed striker Alex Godfrey after the young Magpies bagged their first victory of the season.

The county town outfit had lost their first four games of the Wyvern Premier League campaign and, after conceding in the first five minutes of the clash in the New Forest, looked to be heading for their fifth consecutive loss.

However, goals from Spanish winger Jon Garcia and substitute Josh Tennant, earned the visitors their first three-point haul.

Kiteley said: “I am delighted with the first win, but we did make hard work of it.

“It looked like the game was going to follow the pattern of most this season, apart from the Christchurch clash, where we create plenty of chances but fail to capitalise.

“We were on top in the first period despite conceding early on and the longer the half went on we became more anxious in front of goal and our decision-making was poor.

“However, Alex Godfrey was superb and instrumental in 90 per cent of our attacking play and he was a bit disappointed that he didn’t get on the scoresheet.

“Will Gape also worked tirelessly in the middle of the park and continually broke things up.”

The Bash took the lead when a ball over the top caught the Magpies cold.

However, the visitors eventually levelled when Godfrey found Jamie Symes, who whipped in a ball from the right-hand side to the far post where Garcia pounced from close in.

Dorchester had to wait until the 80th minute before sealing victory when left-back George Kimber popped up in the box and fed Jack Twyford, who saw his shot parried by the home keeper, but Tennant was on hand to slot the ball into the net.

The Magpies endured a nervy last few minutes but hung on to seal a deserved victory.

Kiteley’s troops will next be in action on Tuesday night when they entertain Wimborne Town (7.45pm) at the Greene IPA Community Stadium.
