AS the end of the hillclimbing season approaches and the results of championships are to be determined, this weekend’s two-day meeting at Manor Farm in Charmouth promises to provide some committed motoring.

Drivers will have aspirations of securing a good finish in either the Bridge Tyres and Wheels Association of South West Motor Clubs series or the parallel Hamilton Classics Central Southern Association Championship.

One driver who has a good chance in both is Craig Moore from Lyme Regis.

The MoT tester has recently successfully defended his title as Wiscombe Park champion and now has the premier position in the South West Championship within his grasp, in addition to a good finish in the Central Southern.

The Ford Cortina speedster always provides a spirited performance and will be seeking to extract the last split second of performance in his bid for more success.

The weekend’s motorsport will see a number of close battles for supremacy in the various classes. The Road-going Series Production Road Car category (over 2,600cc) will see Simon Neve and Steve Clarke go head-to-head with their Mitsubishi Evo 6RS and Subaru Impreza.

With four-wheel drive and turbo-charged engines, these machines will be a spectacle particularly as Neve will be seeking to break his own class record which he set in the Woolbridge Motor Club-organised event last Sept-ember.

There will be a wide range of cars competing in both today’s and tomorrow’s events, ranging from road-going saloons and sports cars through modified classes to the sports racers and then the single-seater racing cars, which should provide the battle for the fastest time of the day.

The rapid Westfield of Weymouth’s Graham and Geoff Blake will be vying for honours in the Modified Specialist Production Car class as their new car is developed and improved.

Another interesting battle will involve those contesting the class for Cars of The Downton Engineering Social Club.

The club, formed a few years ago, to commemorate the successful tuning company of the same name, will see Minis and Mini related cars take to the track.

For those with an interest in cars of a previous era then the racing car classes include machines from the early 1960s, including Mark Riley’s 500cc Creamer and the Alfa Dana of father and son duo John and Andrew Forsyth, as well as the immaculate formula junior Cooper T65 of Reg Broome.
