LADY Luck deserted the Terras once again on Saturday as they exited the FA Cup in controversial circumstances at Basingstoke Town.

Weymouth fought hard throughout and even took the lead through Ben Joyce but the main talking point in the 3-1 defeat came eight minutes from time when Craig Duff had an equaliser ruled out for offside.

The midfielder was also denied a goal at Frome Town last Wednesday night and boss Brendon King is adamant a change of fortunes cannot be too far away.

He told Echosport: “We had another effort ruled out and to be quite honest it is getting a bitter pill to swallow now.

“The assistant-referee put his flag up for offside and the referee gave a goal-kick, so what was going on there I do not know. All I do know is that we are not getting the rub of the green at the minute.

“There were some strange decisions throughout the game but whether Craig was offside or not, we cannot be sure.

“That aside I thought we acquitted ourselves well against a team from the league above and I thought all the lads were a credit to the club.

“We certainly didn’t deserve to lose 3-1 and there were a lot of positives we could take from it.”

King went on to add: “We knocked the ball around well at times and played at a good tempo throughout. I also thought on the whole we defended a lot better.

“Simon Evans made three or four decent saves but has held his hands up for the first goal, the second was a spawny one, which deflected kindly into their path, and obviously the third came in added-time when we were pushing for an equaliser.

Football is all about defining moments sometimes and had we got back to 2-2 we might have earned that replay I felt we deserved.

“However, it wasn’t to be and all we can do now is pick ourselves up, take the positives from it and move on to the next game.

“One thing is for sure if we play with that same commitment and tempo over the next few weeks we will certainly win more than we lose.”

Next up for the Terras is a home tie on Saturday against Tiverton Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy (3pm).
