CHICKERELL UNITED 3 WAREHAM RANGERS 0

MAURICE Welch was delighted with his side’s polished performance against Wareham Rangers at Cranford Avenue.

Chickerell United went into the clash on a winless run of five games but strikes either side of the break soon saw confidence flood back into their ranks as they went on to record a fine 3-0 victory.

Welch told Echosport: “They had a good side with some decent players and the game was a great advert for football.

“There was free-flowing football from both teams and there were chances at either end.

“We eventually took the lead just a minute before the break when Steve Welch’s fantastic run and cross picked out Liam Beades who found the corner of the net with a fine header from 12 yards.

“After that we knew they would come at us early in the second half but just four minutes after the break we then scored again.

“Steve Welch made another fine run and this time he combined with Nick Etherington before taking the ball down and finishing well to make it 2-0.

“After that we knocked the ball around well but Wareham did carry on creating chances.

“They pushed an extra man forward and gave us quite a few scares by hitting the post and forcing Steve Boore into a couple of good saves but we stood up to it well before Josh Why made it 3-0 with just 15 minutes remaining to wrap the game up.”

The United boss went on to add: “It was a result we needed but what delighted me most was the performance.

“We looked like a polished outfit and there were some excellent individual displays right the way through the team.

“Steve Welch not only made some superb runs down the left again but there was an end product as well and I also thought Josh Tennant and Josh Why were a constant thorn in their side throughout.

“Josh is at Dorchester Town and is on dual registration forms with us and for his first outing I thought he did very well.

“Liam also did superbly just in behind those two and I thought we looked a lot more solid at the back too so all in all it was a very pleasing display.”

The victory has moved Chickerell up to seventh in the Magna Dorset Premier League table. Their next outing will be at Sherborne Town Reserves this coming Saturday (3pm).
