EIGHT members from Dorset Pentathletes helped Great Britain secure 20 medals and the overall team trophy in this year’s final Biathle World Tour event in Italy.

The 28-strong GB squad enjoyed a very successful training camp at Dotel Versilia in Lucca before the event itself, which was staged in Massarosa near Pisa.

In the opening event, Ryan Symington won the boys’ 10-and-under and that was quickly followed by another gold for Lucy Bain in the girls’ 14-and-under which also saw Leanne Symington finish fifth.

Harrison Yarnold and Hugh Ireland then finished first and third respectively in the boys’ 14-and-under before more success followed in the boys’ 16-and-under category where Jordon Symington outshone the rest of the field to pick up another gold medal.

There was also glory in the masters’ race where Nigel Brain and Nick Ireland finished in the top two positions on the podium with the former claiming the win.

Great Britain and Dorset Pentathletes coach Mick Flaherty said: “This was another fine performance from the competitors from Dorset Pentathles who claimed five out of the eight gold medals won by GB, as well as one silver, and a bronze.”

In total, the British team came away from Italy with 20 medals, including half-a-dozen silver and six bronze.
