UPWEY & BROADWEY 3 WITCHAMPTON UTD 2

THERE is still plenty of room for improvement at Upwey & Broadwey , according to Pete Jarvis.

The midfielder, who is currently sidelined with a groin injury, watched his team-mates record a 3-2 victory against Witchampton United in their latest outing but is adamant that better displays are yet to come.

Jarvis, who is also on the coaching staff, told Echosport: “It was good to record back-to-back wins because that will breed confidence but it is still very much a work in progress and there is still room for improvement.

“The lads are aware of that and we will keep working on a few things to ensure we keep pushing in the right direction.”

Sam Nichols and Ethan Devaney put Upwey two up against the Witches only for the visitors to pull back level before Jason Pearce finally settled matters in the second half.

Jarvis added: “The previous week we started slow but this time we set a high tempo from the outset and raced into a 2-0 lead.

“Ethan was back to his best and unplayable at times, and he set up Sam for the first before going on to score the second following a pass from Charlie Kenderdine.

“The game then became a bit scrappy and with that we began to overplay in the wrong areas rather than just clearing our lines.

“As a consequence, they pulled one back with a header from a free-kick before going on to equalise just before half-time when Ben Porteous’ header back let one of their players through to make it 2-2.

“We told the lads not to panic at the break and to cut out the silly mistakes, and at the start of the second half we got back in front when Jason battled his way through to grab our third.

“After that we should have gone on to score a lot more.

“The amount of chances that went begging was just unbelievable and the fact we failed to go on to put the game to bed made it difficult viewing from the sidelines, particularly when Witch-ampton had a couple of chances to snatch a draw late on.

“The key to success in the Senior League is consistency in performance and this is something we are still striving for.

“We can be fantastic in patches but then lacklustre in others and when you are like that at some point it is going to cost you.

“We just need to find that middle ground.”

Upwey were boosted by the inclusion of three players from Weymouth Reserves in Chris Povall, Adam Anstey and Sean Zima.

Jarvis went on to say: “Wey-mouth Reserves didn’t have a game and we would like to thank them and Brendon King for letting the three lads play for us.

“They all did well and it was great to have them on board.”

Upwey, who travel to Gillingham Town Reserves on Saturday (3pm), currently sit fourth in the Dorset Senior League with six points from three games.
