WEYLINE 1 RENDEZVOUS 10

RENDEZVOUS ran riot against reigning champions Weyline to move to the summit of the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership.

The contest, which was played in extremely wet conditions, promised to be eventful and it did not disappoint.

The official scoreline at the end was 10-1 but both sides were sure that Vous had actually scored more such was their dominance towards the end.

Weyline took the lead through Danny Andrews on seven minutes but the tables were soon turned by Ricky Lane’s delightful chip and a fine free-kick from Marco Nott.

The title holders looked stunned and just moments later their morning got even worse when their keeper was red carded for bringing down Lane, who dispatched the resulting penalty with ease to make it 3-1 at the break.

Being a man down the second half was always going to be an uphill task for Adam Parker’s side and so it proved with Lane going on to complete a double hat-trick and Marco Nott taking his tally to three.

Andy Nott also got in on the act and when two disheartened players just plainly walked off the field leaving Weyline with just eight men the match quickly descended into farce.

It was at that point that the referee appeared to stop counting the goals. Either that or his pen had ceased working in the rain.

Vous now sit one point clear of Weyline at the top of the table after three games.

Meanwhile, Market House picked up their first win in the top-flight by beating the Alex 4-0 with doubles from Bobby Darch and Derek Puckett.

Portland Lions maintained their 100 per cent Championship record with a 3-1 win over Dolce Vita in near monsoon conditions.

With the wind in their favour in the first half, the Lions took a 3-0 lead into the interval with goals from Louis Curtis (2) and player-manager Dave Price.

The Lions then defended doggedly against the elements and only conceded one goal in the second half.

Boss Price said: “Credit must go to all the players of both teams as well as the referee and linesmen as the conditions were awful. “It was a relief to get the three points.”
