GROIN INJURY: Striker Ryan Dovell, left, will miss the trip to Winterbourne

RYAN Dovell will be back on the sidelines this weekend after suffering a recurrence of his recent groin injury.

The experienced frontman bagged his third goal in five appearances last Saturday but had to be replaced 20 minutes from the end as the Bees were held by Bristol Manor Farm.

Keen to avoid the risk of further damage, boss Trevor Senior will rest his star striker tomorrow as Bridport visit Winterbourne United (3pm).

Senior said: “Ryan is not going to be fit as he’s had a recurrence of his groin injury.

“He did score last Saturday but he had to come off and having spoken to him in the week his groin is worse this week than it was last week, so we have decided to rest him.

“It’s better that he misses one game as opposed to a month. We’ve got a tough October and we need as many players fit as possible.”

Tomorrow’s hosts lie three places and two points adrift of the Bees but enter the clash on the back of a 2-1 victory over Odd Down in midweek.

Senior added: “They are a bit of an unknown quantity as they have transferred from the Hellenic League this year due to the travelling.

“From talking to Bristol Manor Farm’s manager it appears they have also signed one or two decent players.

“They have lost a few and they were beaten quite heavily by Gillingham (8-3) back in August, but their results have picked up since then and I see that they beat Odd Down on Wednesday night so they are clearly a decent side because Odd Down are quite a strong outfit.”

Bridport meanwhile, have drawn each of their last two outings and despite sitting eighth in the Toolstation Western Premier Division, their last league win came almost five weeks ago.

“We could easily have had six points from our last two games rather than two,” said the St Mary’s Field chief.

“I felt we deserved to get the three points based on the chances we created. And if you were to add four points to our current tally we would be up to second in the table.

“The pack behind are closing in so you can’t afford to lose too many games. We’ve also got a tough October so it’s important to get something out of the game tomorrow.”

Jamie Filkins and Sam Buckler return to the fold but Dan Peart is unavailable.
