Ladies take Shots on in FA Cup crunch
WITH the club’s future still uncertain, Weymouth Ladies face arguably the biggest game in their history tomorrow when they entertain high-flying Aldershot Town in the prestigious FA Cup at the Bob Lucas Stadium (2pm).
Aldershot have made a superb start to their season and are currently top of the Southern Region Premier Division, which means that Weymouth go into the contest as huge underdogs.
To make matters worse, the home side have concerns over a number of their talented young squad.
Definitely missing the tie is top scorer and Chelsea Academy star Philippa Holden, who has a chipped ankle bone and will spend at least the next month on the sidelines.
Also out is newly signed experienced defender Karen Perkins, who has a thigh strain.
Last season’s most improved player, centre-back Zoe Acutt, looks like missing out through flu and the squad is also carrying several other injury concerns.
The show must go on, however, and Weymouth will be doing their utmost to cause an upset against their more experienced opponents.
Manager Tim Davis said: “If the people of Weymouth want a high level of ladies football then the town is urged to turn out in force tomorrow to show their support and play their part in securing the club’s future.
“Tomorrow is the ideal time to come along and see for yourself just how good the standard is getting and how proud the girls are to represent the town.
“Our recent appeal in the Dorset Echo for the business community to come forward and support the team has had some success and Nantes Solicitors have agreed to sponsor the match, which is a fantastic gesture.
“We would also like 11 young girls to be mascots on the day so if you would like your daughter to do this and enjoy the occasion then turn up on the day and ask me, or email firstname.lastname@example.org to register a place.”
Admission prices for tomorrow’s cup clash are £2 for adults and £1 for children.
