SUNDAY morning footballers will be staging their own action replays when they get together to celebrate the Weymouth Pubs League’s golden era.

Players from the 1980s and 1990s, when the league boasted more than 25 teams over three divisions, will be swapping stories and reliving moments of triumph and disaster at a reunion night next Saturday, October 13, at the Wyke Smugglers in Weymouth, from 7.30pm.

As event organiser Dave Hill explains: “I set up a Facebook group a few months ago and membership has since spiralled.

“Friendships forged with teammates and rivals from that era have stood the test of time and it’ll be good to meet up with many of the great characters from that era again.

“There was always some healthy banter both on and off the pitch so it will be great fun to look back and reminisce,” added Dave, who turned out for The Globe, The Cutter and the Wellington.

The event is open to all players, referees, supporters and club officials from the 1980s and 1990s although current players are more than welcome.

There will be a few table football games for players to enjoy and everyone is invited to bring along old team photos and trophies.
