Puddletown 60 FORDINGBRIDGE II 14

FOUR tries in 15 first-half minutes saw Puddletown storm clear of their Hampshire visitors in this Dorset & Wilts Two South encounter.

Starting brightly, the home side took an early lead when outside centre Josh Hiscock, latching onto a short pass, went on a mazy run through the visiting defence to score under the posts.

Skipper Tom Yeatman added the extras only for the lead to be cancelled out minutes later when Fordingbridge caught the home defence napping.

The visitors enjoyed a period of superiority, at least in midfield, until the start of the second quarter but then the Villagers’ burst into life. Upping the pace and with passes increasingly going to hand they began to create chances with Dan Udell first to prosper as he burst through from full-back, timing his run to perfection to cross the line.

Yeatman added the second of his five successful conversions, then straight from the restart flanker Matt Watts and number eight Paul Chidley combined to put hooker Jon Wilson clear for his second try in as many games.

The purple patch continued with fly-half Barry Dovell using all his options to set up attacking phases, and it was Hiscock who was twice more the recipient of the final pass, firstly from Yeatman, then from Watts, to jink through and complete his hat-trick.

The scores kept on coming in the second half with Matt Isaac sprinting down his wing to cross the whitewash before both Yeatman and Dovell were rewarded with tries of their own.

Chris Thomson then got in on the act with a strong run down the other wing before Fordingbridge got some compensation for their efforts, doubling their tally after an intercepted pass.

The final act though came from the Villagers when second-row stalwart Jim Talbot powered over from 10 metres out.
