YOUNG Dorchester Town asset Jordan Tewkesbury has hailed the fantastic work being carried out by the UK Young Ambassador Steering Group.

The movement’s aim is to outline the positive values of sport and increase participation in schools in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking to Echosport, vice-chairman Tewkesbury said: “I am overseeing the whole programme with the help of 14 other steering group members and we are currently in the process of recruiting our new intake of young ambassadors in order to help continue the sporting legacy and achievement across England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

“Young Ambassadors are the most outstanding sports leaders in schools. They are selected due to their sporting talent, and more importantly, due to their exceptional commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers.

“I believe that the sporting legacy and participation can be positively affected by the work of young people with a desire to help others reach their potential.

“I have been in their current situation and step by step will be taking them through the ways in which they can make an impact.”

The UK Young Ambassador Steering Group is holding a recruitment conference at the Hamworthy Club on Magna Road, Canford Magna, Wimborne on October 25.

He added: “We are expecting between 80-130 new recruits in order to guide them and set them up to influence the lives of Young People and help the values and concepts of which the movement and scheme is based around.”
