BRENDON King has warned his men not to get carried away by Saturday’s success at Banbury United.

The under-fire boss was delighted with his side’s performance but knows it will count for nothing unless they can continue pushing on over the coming weeks.

Speaking to Echosport, King said: “Last week in training we worked extremely hard on certain aspects to improve us and it was great to see it all pay off on Saturday.

“We knew we would have to go there and fight and scrap, and be a lot more compact and that is exactly what we did.

“We had some harsh words with the players leading up to the game and the fact they responded in such a good way was pleasing.

“However, we are not going to get carried away because clearly we have not been good enough of late and one result doesn’t change that.

“It’s a start and it gives us something to build on but there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us.”

Ben Joyce bagged a brace for the Terras after Kyle Critchell had put the visitors in front with an early header. King went on to add: “We changed it around a bit. Sam Poole returned from injury and partnered Ed Palmer in central def-ence while Kyle went to left-back.

“We told the full-backs not to go over the halfway line and told each and every one of the players to put their bodies on the line for us, which they did.

“We conceded just before half-time, which was disappointing, but we sorted a few things out at the break and in the second half we looked a lot more solid and completely dominated.

“Ben took his second goal superbly and we could have gone on to grab a couple more.”

Commenting on Poole, King went on to say: “It was great to have him back after four weeks out and like the rest of the lads, he did us proud.

“Both Sam and Ed are big six-footers and they were a massive presence for us back there.

“Mark Ford also started and I thought he did really well too. He has really taken on board what we have been telling him and you could see a lot of improvements in his all-round game, particularly his hold up play.”

There was also a new face among the travelling contingent – former manager Stuart Morgan. King said: “I have asked Stuart to come on board to give us another angle.

“He has bags of experience and he is happy to give me an extra pair of eyes on the coaching side.

“I introduced him to the players after the game and he is more than happy to help us out, as and when he can.”

Saturday’s victory has lifted the Terras up to 16th in the table, four points above the bottom two. Their next assignment is a trip to Poole Town tomorrow night in the first round of the Red Insure Cup (7.45pm).
