STUDENTS of Evolution Martial Arts in Bridport returned from the NITA Midlands Open with an impressive haul of 14 medals.

Eight competitors took part in taekwondo sparring and patterns events at Hereford and together they collected six gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Junior patterns started the day with Sam Perrins coming second in the yellow belt division and Conor Calby placing third in the red belt division.

Junior sparring was next on the agenda where Perrins, Josh Southwood and Toby Stannard all made their competition debuts.

Perrins was third in the heavyweight point-stop event, Southwood claimed second in the middleweight point-stop discipline and Stannard earned a well-deserved third in the lightweight continuous event.

The red belts sparred next and Abbie Miller secured two more bronze medals for Evolution in point-stop and continuous sparring before Calby took silver in the heavyweight point-stop event.

Newly-promoted black belt Quinton Bale received two golds in the heavyweight point-stop and continuous sparring.

In the men’s sparring red belt, Danny Blaker and third degree black belt Conor Lilley both won double gold in the point-stop and continuous sparring disciplines.

Evolution classes take place at Bridport Leisure Centre, including one for children aged eight to 12 (5.30pm).
