So here it is, the SailLaser End of Season Party! And whilst the rest of the country is gripped by the freezing temperatures, Portland is bright, calm and still. Even parts of Weymouth had snow yesterday evening whilst we had rain!

I was looking forward to the final get together of the season. Everybody was bringing some food and I was no exception. Mum had made a huge cake and decorated it.

It tasted as good as it looked (although I am biased!) as did all the contributions from everyone. For the adults there was mulled wine and everybody was getting in the Christmas spirit.

When we arrived we were split into 4 teams. I was team leader of team 4. I gathered my team together and awaited the game instructions.

That’s where it got complicated! We were given a ‘bank’ of chewy sweets where different colour sweets were worth different amounts ie purple 100, red 50 etc. We then used the sweets to ‘bid’ for junk items that were then to be used to build a ‘boat’ ie used fizzy drink bottles.

Once we had bid and built, we made our way to the pontoon and launched our vessels into Portland Harbour. The one that went the furthest was deemed to have won. I am pleased to say that my team, team 4, were the winners and took the prize of – you guessed it – more chewy sweets!

We then had the buffet and settled down for the prize giving. There were certificates given to those who had volunteered throughout the year at OnBoard Club.

I was delighted that I received a special sweatshirt for the hours that I had put in. This was embroidered with ‘SailLaser Volunteer’ on the front and my name on the back.

It’s awesome and I cant wait until next February when I can where it whilst (assistant) instructing at OnBoard Club.

Then came another surprise, I won the Laser Race Series for 2010. I was awarded a certificate and a trophy. I was chuffed to bits that I had come 1st as this is my first cup that I have won for sailing and it means a lot to me.

I’d like to thank everyone that made this season possible and I am really looking forward to next February when it starts all over again!
