THE Will Mackaness Trust has been successful in their application for a Sport England Small Grant Fund.

The £10,000 has been used to purchase six RS:One windsurfing sets – a fantastic class that bridges the gap between the youth windsurfing class of Techno and the Olympic class of RS:X.

This will enable all- inclusive club racing to be rekindled.

The racing will be hosted by The Official Test Centre (OTC) on Thursday evenings throughout the summer months from 6-8pm, with all welcome to take part for £10 per evening.

Speaking about the race club, Tris Best from the OTC said: “Club racing for windsurfing has been sorely lacking in the sport’s recent past, largely down to equipment costs and accessibility.

“With this fantastic initiative by the Will Mackaness Trust, we are hoping to add to the social scene in the evenings.

“For those who aspire to come racing, we also have kids and adults clubs running every evening throughout the weekdays.”

Pam Govier, director of the trust said: “We are so excited that we can play a major role in fulfilling the “Olympic Legacy” in Weymouth and Portland.

“The aim of the trust is to encourage as many young people to become involved in watersports through courses and lessons.

“This substantial Sport England grant allows us to build on our introductory windsurfing courses and so enable the youngsters to progress and develop their love of the sport further, using these fantastic boards.”
