THE Dorset Schools Watersports Championships will be taking place next week.

First up on Wednesday is the Dorset School Games Windsurfing Finals, which again are being sponsored by Sainsbury’s.

It will be held at the Official Test Centre at the Weymouth and Portland & National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) and involve a full day of windsurfing for all competitors from 10am to 4pm.

Wey Valley School will be very keen to defend their title as they have been winners two years running.

The other local schools are set to provide some fierce competition as they have been training hard this year.

The Dorset School Games sailing competition will, for the first time, be taking place at Rockley Watersports Centre, Poole – it has been held by WPNSA in the past.

The event also includes a day of competition for primary schools, which is a first.

On the following day, June 27, competition for secondary schools take place.

In total, as many as 15 teams are expected with more than 50 young people taking part.

They will be sailing Laser Picos and the plan is for there to be two fleets, a Challenger Fleet and a Gold Fleet, competing in three to four races in the morning.

The semi-finals and finals are planned to be held in the afternoon.

Individual scores will be mer-ged to identify the winning school.
