WEYMOUTH & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) and Weymouth Sailing Club (WSC) are in their final preparation stages for the bid to hold the largest sailing race in the world.

Bart’s Bash is taking place in memory of Olympic medallist Andrew Simpson, pictured, who sadly died as a result of an accident while training for the America’s Cup.

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre at WPNSA will hopefully benefit from the money which has been raised in association with the race as well as have its profile raised by getting a mention in the Guiness Book of Records.

The Bash is being held on Sunday, September 21, CCSC have planned several on-shore events and WSC will be hosting a hog roast on the evening of September 20. After the race, WPNSA will be holding the prizegiving event and other celebrations.

It has been confirmed that several Olympic sailors are to take part in the race.
