WEYMOUTH'S tall ship returned to her home port earlier this week following a fortnight away taking part in two international regattas.

TS Pelican left Weymouth with a group of enthusiastic individuals on board, many of whom had never sailed before.

Her first stop was at the Falmouth Regatta along with 43 other ships from around the world that were taking part in the prestigious event.

TS Pelican’s members were proud to be awarded the best in crew parade at the regatta as they marched through the streets of Falmouth.

It is estimated that more than 300,000 people flocked to Falmouth Docks to explore the regatta and enjoyed tours around the ships and volunteer watch leader Jess Foiulkes said: “It was a fantastic spectacle.”

Foulkes first sailed on TS Pelican in 2011 as a trainee.

She added: “I was then recommended to return as a volunteer. I now sail regularly as a watch leader, ensuring trainees understand the ship’s routine and guide them in all aspects of life on board.”

Following the regatta, a group of service personnel from the charity Turn To Starboard joined TS Pelican and helped sail the ship in a competitive race to the Isle of Wight.

The fleet then sailed to Greewich.

The Royal Greenwich Regatta lived up to its name with appearances from the Countess of Wessex, the Queen’s barge Gloriana and even included a visit for TS Pelican’s crew to 10 Downing Street.

Meanwhile, the office team made an appearance at the first ever Waterfest in Weymouth, which was a huge success.

This included an evening on board the visiting French tall ship Le Marité.

TS Pelican’s sailing programme for 2015 is due to be released shortly, so for your chance to sail, keep an eye on the website adventureundersail.com
