PORTLAND Gig Rowing Club put forward a ladies’ team to represent them in the Newquay County Championships.
Sea conditions in Cornwall were perfect in stark contrast to the previous year.
The 96 crews were put into heats to battle against the clock around a triangular course, which was approximately 1.8 miles long.
Although the Portland ladies put in a good team effort to achieve third position in heat one, unfortunately they didn’t get through to round two.
Overall the ladies finished 55th out of 96 crews.
Despite their disappointment, the club are nearing the end of what has turned out to be their most successful gig racing year, so far.
The islanders are now looking forward to starting a strong and solid winter training programme in preparation for the 2015 season.
