WEYMOUTH Sailing Club (WSC) members dug deep to help out local lifesavers on the Weymouth lifeboat.

Committee members of WSC learnt that the RNLI’s local fundraising team’s barbecue had been condemned, which hampered their fundraising plans.

After consulting with life-boat management chairman Tony Beeson and Weymouth’s coxswain Andrew Sargent, a replacement unit was identified.

The club has raised money throughout the year for their neighbours on Nothe Parade and, with more than £2,000 in the kitty, it was deemed that it could be put to good use by providing a replacement barbecue. A handover was carried out with members of WSC and the crew of Weymouth’s lifeboat present.

Lifeboat operations manager John Harvey thanked WSC commodore Kathy Claydon for the barbecue and for the club’s continued support of the local RNLI station.
