THE Afloat page has been following the progress of Stuart Appleby and Alex Tobutt in their quest to make it to the Rio Olympics on their 49er.
Based at Portland, the pair were attempting to campaign from outside of the Royal Yachting Association-funded Olympic squad. They were reliant on private sponsorship as well as both working to support their campaign.
After much hard work, some excellent results, some disappointing races, some soul-searching and their attendance at the World Championship in Finland this summer, they have decided to call a halt to their campaign.
It has been interesting to share their experiences and we wish them all the best for the future. No doubt we will be hearing about this dedicated pair in a new venture in the future.
