TWO Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) members attended the Ovington Boats Inland Champ-ionship, which took place at Grafham Water Sailing Club.

The event, open to a range of classes, yielded more than 70 boats.

Alex Knight and Sam Barker, both usual racers at CCSC were among the Musto Skiff fleet with more than 25 other competitors.

On day one of the weekend event, the wind was blowing a fierce offshore breeze however, soon after launching, the wind picked up to an average of 25 Knots with gusts exceeding 28 Knots.

The first race of the event proved to be the toughest with many people not competing due to the high winds.

Knight battled with the conditions and secured an eighth place, meanwhile, Barker finished 15th.

The conditions of the second race soon deteriorated as the wind picked up until it was averaging over 28 knots.

Much like the first race, the number of finishers was fewer than the number of competitors.

Knight improved his result and finished in fifth place.

However, Barker was unfortunately subject to a boat malfunction and was not able to compete in the race.

The second day was very much the opposite of the previous one with bright sunshine and a wind of only six knots.

This gave Barker a perfect opportunity to show his skill in the light wind as he finished in third place with Knight just behind in fourth.

In the following two races, Barker again leading the way improved his positions by adding two first places to his results.

In the last race he finished second.

Also at the top of the fleet, Knight achieved a second, a fourth and a third.

Overall, this left Knight in a superb second place and Barker in fifth in a very high standard fleet.
