EXCITEMENT is building ahead of this year’s Portland Fish and Ships event.

The two-day festival, which is free to enter, takes place at Portland Marina on April 11 and 12 (10am-5pm).

Kicking off the weekend’s activities is a charity cycle ride on April 10 in aid of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

The Big Green Dean and Reddyhoff Marinas’ Cycle sees staff and friends of Dean and Reddyhoff’s Marina ride either a short (30-mile), standard (50-mile) or epic (65-mile) route from Portland Marina.

The cycle will raise money for Great Ormond Street through Wayne Ingram’s liferaft survival challenge.

In May, Ingram is planning to spend seven days and nights in a liferaft in Portland Harbour.

Last year’s successful Fish and Ships event brought together all the marine-related businesses at Osprey Quay with the best of Dorset’s food and drink producers.

A number of watersport activities are on offer this time, including windsurfing with the Official Test Centre, an introduction to dinghy sailing with the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre, a Portland Gig Rowing Club learn to row session and a two-hour sailing trip with Quality Time.
