UK Laser Radial Youth National champion Jack Cookson will be taking to the water to be part of the Red Bull foiling generation event at the end of this month.

The Dorchester sailor is a member of Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) and was selected for the event along with 15 other teams from across the country.

The competition will take place on June 26-28 at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.

There will be two days of training followed by the racing.

Cookson is delighted to have been selected and will be competing on a double-handed catamaran called a Flying Phantom.

The boat is particularly special as it is a foiling catamaran which means that the majority of the boat is able to leave the water, creating less drag.

The boat is capable of exceeding speeds of 35 knots, so harnesses and safety helmets will be the order of the day.

His sailing partner for the event will be James Bishop who is 16-years-old and from Portland.

Bishop is also a member of CCSC and was part of the Youth Transitional Squad.

He finished 15th in the Europa Cup in Belgium.

Cookson will be helming the catamaran with Bishop as the crew.

The pair have a track record of strong performances as individuals so it is hoped the event on home waters will be a success.

This will be an exciting competition for all involved and spectators should be able to enjoy the sight of the boats as they fly across the bay.
