WEY Valley School dominated the Dorset School Games windsurfing competition hosted by the Watersports Academy at Sandbanks in Poole.

The Weymouth school had held the trophy for two years running but lost out to Poole Grammar School by one point 12 months ago.

However, not only did they win the team event this year, they also took individual gold, silver and bronze.

This year there were light winds but plenty of strong competition at the event, which was open to all schools in Dorset.

A total of five schools – Avonbourne, Bishop of Winchester, Budmouth, The Grange and Wey Valley – battled it out for top honours.

The event was split into two fleets. The Challenge fleet was for those new to windsurfing while the Gold fleet was for the more confident and experienced windsurfers.

There were a number of youngsters in the Challenge fleet but it was Wey Valley’s surfers that performed the best and claimed all of the individual medals.

In the girls’ fleet, Grace Goodwin placed third, Beth Hammond came second and Lucy Turnbull clinched gold.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ fleet, Josh Dean won bronze, Adam Turnbull finished in second and Ollie Hammond was crowned the champion.

Racing was extremely close between the six competitors in the Gold fleet and half-a-dozen races were completed.

Third place was given to two windsurfers, James Faley and Reed Russell, after they finished tied on the same number of points.

In second place was Sam Anstey and the overall winner was young windsurfing starlet Scotty Stallman.

Overall, the Bishop of Winchester Academy came second behind champions Wey Valley, with Avonbourne School completing the top three teams.

The event was a great success and enjoyed by all of the youngsters who took part.

Next year the competition will return to the Official Test Centre at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
