MEMBERS of the Portland Royal Naval Association (RNA) and many others attended the Corner House Inn on Portland to mourn the death of the daily tot of rum issue in the Royal Navy.
The Corner House has for more than 25 years conducted this event in aid of local charities and this year, the Portland branch of the RNA were the grateful recipients.
This also allowed them to boost their own charity funds which are also directed towards local deserving causes.
Pub landlord Jeff Chitty said that his team thoroughly entered into the ‘spirit’ of the day with the scene being set by Andy Porter and the auction of treasured and travelled military and maritime memorabilia, robustly conducted by Ian Daft.
The efforts of the day were rewarded at their general meeting where they were overwhelmed to be presented with the sum of £700, the result of a very successful day.
The RNA said they wish Chitty and his team all the best and will support them again next year.
