SKILLED Laser Radial sailor Alex McFarlane, 15, enjoyed success at the Castle Cove Sailing Club Cadet Regatta.

McFarlane emerged triumphant over four races in the Gold fleet to claim the Ayrton Dempsey Trophy.

He said: “I had a fantastic time at the Castle Cove Cadet Regatta racing in my Laser Radial.”

There were a number of other talented sailors in the event including Will Adler.

He placed in second place in his Topper dinghy, hot on the tail of McFarlane, and is certainly a sailor to watch for the future.

Third place went to another promising Topper sailor, Oliver Fellows, while Laser ace Emma Bishop was fourth.

There was also a Silver fleet for the less experienced sailors which saw Andrew Cotrill take the win.

McFarlane added: “I am looking forward to my winter training in the Royal Yachting Association’s Youth Radial Transitional Squad, which will prepare me to do well next season.”
