A PARTY to celebrate the incredible achievements of Portland’s Megan Pascoe took place at Castle Cove Sailing Club.

Members from both Castle Cove and Weymouth Sailing Club attended a fantastic evening to celebrate Pascoe’s success at the recent International 2.4 World Championships.

The championship, held in Hobart in Tasmania, saw Pascoe finish ahead of her nearest rival by more than 20 points.

Talking about her remarkable result, Megan said: “This world title for me is very special as it is the class World Championships so everyone can take part, not only disabled sailors.

“Hobart was an amazing place to go sailing, but the river Derwent made sailing very tricky as well, with light winds and lots of current. Somehow I kept managing to come out on top.

“It was amazing to come home to see friends and family and the support I get from all the clubs in Weymouth and Portland.

“My future plans are not certain yet but I hope I can repay the support given to me by the British Sailing Team over the last 15 years by helping the team win as many medals as we can in Rio.”

The 29-year-old secured victory with a day to spare after amassing an unassailable lead ahead of home favourite Matt Bugg and Kiwi Paul Francis.

Pascoe has been a regular podium performer at both disabled and open world championships but this was her first time on the top step.

Michelle Pascoe added: “Castle Cove Sailing Club hosted an excellent welcome home for the newly-crowned world champion.

“Megan thanked everyone for their support and showed great delight in being involved with the two local sailing clubs.”
