LOCAL Laser sailors have been competing at recent, multiple national events.

At the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, a Laser 4.7 Ladder event ran alongside the first Laser World and European Qualifier event of the season.

Tricky conditions on the first day included a strong northerly wind of around 20 knots with similar conditions following on the second day.

Competing in the standard fleet of the qualifier event was Dorchester sailor, Jack Cookson.

The current Youth National champion scored highly in the six races including one race win. His efforts earned him second place overall, only four points behind the top-placed sailor, Anthony Parke.

Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) member, James Bishop was also taking part in the event. His top result in one race was a 10th place.

In the 4.7 event, there were more than 30 competitors. CCSC sailor Emma Bishop achieved 19th place with a highlight of an eighth place in race two.

The second qualifier event followed closely and took place at the Mountbatten Centre, Plymouth.

In the standard fleet, which attracted more than 35 sailors, Cookson again provided a credible performance. He finished in 14th place overall. James Bishop was not far behind in 24th place and in the last race, achieved an 11th place.

This weekend, both Bishop and Cookson will compete at the third qualifier to be held at Stokes Bay Sailing Club.
