YOUNG sailors battled on the water to mark the 2016 Olympic Games.
Teams from a number of local sailing clubs gathered at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for the Royal Yachting Association Sail for Gold Roadshow. The youngsters sailed in Pico dinghies accompanied by members of the British Sailing Team, who gave tips and advice to sailors of all levels.
Castle Cove Sailing Club fielded a strong team of cadets to win the gold medal, closely followed by Weymouth Sailing Club’s team of six who secured silver. The sailors from Axe Yacht Club completed the teams on the podium.
Sutton Bingham Sailing Club was represented by one sailor, Ollie Darvill.
The nine-year-old was awarded the endeavour prize having entered every race. He was judged by the members of the British Sailing Team to have sailed well.
The event was very well organised and enjoyable with all the sailors from around the area putting in a great performance.
