CADETS at Weymouth Sailing Club (WSC) celebrated the end of the summer sailing season with a regatta.

Before heading on to the water, the youngsters took part in a fastest rigging competition.

Alfie Honeybun and Harry Owens were the quickest rigging their 420 dinghy in less than four minutes.

A number of the sailors dressed up, with Jacob Cox and Marcus Piper wearing Hawaiian garments to win the fancy dress award.

The race committee and safety teams also entered into the spirit of the evening dressing as Mexicans along with one pirate.

On the water, a large race course was set and two back-to-back races were held before the light started to fade.

The racing was very close between the six Fevas however, Honeybun and Owens in their 420 pulled away from the fleet, scoring two race wins.

They were presented with bags of sweets, a highly sought after Zhik hat each and a new award, the Benjamin Samuel Trophy.

The beautiful silver trophy was donated by Daphne and Phil Samways in the name of their recently born grandson.

Second place went to Alexandra Stevenson and Esmeralda Contreras Fahey while Grace Norris and Ben Thomas completed the top three.

The prizegiving was held on the WSC veranda with a lavish barbecue and desserts organised and run by Sarah Owens.

The participants all enjoyed the event, the first Cadet Regatta held at WSC and it is anticipated that it will become an annual fixture in the Cadet sailing calendar.

Crowning for Knight

A CASTLE Cove Sailing Club star was crowned champion at the Musto Skiff National Championships.

Alex Knight joined almost 50 other sailors at Largo Bay Sailing Club for the event. Three days of racing took place with one day being abandoned due to no wind.

After eight races, Knight sat on top of the fleet with an eight-point lead over Dan Kilsby in second place.

It was a fantastic result for the well known Weymouth sailor.
