A WEYMOUTH windsurfer took on the UK’s best sailors at the Royal Yachting Association’s Olympic Classes Autumn National Ranking event.

Teenager Lily Young competed in the RS:X 8.5 fleet at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

On the first day of the ranking event, extremely gusty winds from the south met competitors and increased throughout the day.

By the last race of the day, the wind strength was very high and there was also torrential rain.

The second day brought a south westerly wind of about 18 knots and sunshine.

The 18-year-old said: “It was amazing racing.

“Four races were completed each day and there was a good fleet of 18 boards.

“I finished as the fourth girl and ninth overall.

“It was a good event to put into practice race starts, which we have been working on in training and a good practice event in preparation for the Youth World Championships in Cyprus this November.”

She added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Flexioffices and the Osprey Leisure Centre for their continued help and support.”
