AS THE season draws to a close, new Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association members Chris and Tess Reid are the only ones venturing further afield.

They sailed their yacht Monterey to Lymington for a Hallberg Rassy Owners' Rally where they met up with 24 other yachts.

After a good sail to the Solent with a stop off in Studland for lunch and to wait for the tide, they arrived just in time for the party on the pontoon.

The rest of the weekend included a presentation on the Round the World Clipper Race, a buffet lunch and dinner all hosted by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club.

With a good southerly wind they enjoyed another excellent sail back to Weymouth.

The WPCA winter talks programme starts off next Tuesday, with a visit from sailmaker Steve Moatt.

However, his talk will not be on sailmaking but on the story of his circumnavigation of Iceland on a bicycle that he bought off ebay.

The trip was in aid of the charity Cancer Research to commemorate his friend and business mentor Rob Hoare and relives his 16 days' adventure including encounters with live volcanoes and geysers.

The talk will start at 8pm with the bar opening at 7.15pm and all local sailors are welcome to attend.
