WEYMOUTH’S Jon Emmett has won the Radial Apprentice competition at the European Masters Championships.

Held on the Spanish Catalan coast, the Laser Radial sailor and coach achieved six wins in eight heats.

The duel of the two Laser 4.7 women was won by British sailor Leslie Hotchin, while Brit Stephen Cockerill won the Radial Masters.

An English success was also achieved in the Radial Grand Masters by Dave Holloway.

Emmett, who coached Chinese Laser Radial sailor Lijia Xu to victory at the 2012 Games this summer, said: “I won the Masters Europeans.

“After Lily won the Olympic gold is was great to be sailing again myself.

“In the Radial I won six out of eight races in the over-35s.

“Steve won the over-45s and Dave won the over-55s so it was a really good championship for the Brits.
