THERE were mixed fortunes for the borough’s sailors at the ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Miami.
British sailors bagged a total of six medals at the regatta, although the local stars finished outside the podium.
Weymouth windsurfing world champion Nick Dempsey, above, pulled himself up to fourth overall after achieving second place in the RS:X men’s final, while Bryony Shaw improved her position to finish fifth in the women’s event.
Sarah Dempsey and Saskia Clark ended their regatta in 13th overall in the 470 women’s dinghy fleet.
In the Paralympic classes, Portland’s SKUD World Champions Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell saw a medal slip from their grasp due to startline indecision, and the pair were forced to settle for fourth.
Meanwhile 2.4mR sailor Megan Pascoe, 23, of Fortuneswell, left, ended her regatta in sixth place.
She said: “It was a bit disappointing as I did not perform to my best and I let a medal slip from my grasp.
“But I’m still learning and I managed to consolidate my sixth place to stay there at the end of the regatta.
“My next big event is in Palma at the end of March, so hopefully I can work on what I learned here and win in Spain.”
