Exeter & District Inter-Division Play-offs

WEYMOUTH COWBOYS 82 CREDITON CHARGERS 63

WEYMOUTH Cowboys claimed the spoils in the Exeter and District League’s inter-division play-offs, as they defeated Devon’s Crediton Chargers in a stunning 87-83 turnaround at Middlemoor.

The first half saw the Chargers dominate with the towering 7ft 3in Mike Lewis and Dan Wieczorek rebounding the boards along with player/coach Alex Boardman hitting a three-pointer, as Crediton went in at the break with a 39-21 lead.

But the Cowboys roared back in a completely differ- ent second period, the game’s MVP, Vitoldas Balc-iunas, marshalled Lewis well on the defence and Craig Sorrell then found his range.

By the end of the third quarter, the Chargers’ lead was reduced to just eight points and Weymouth continued their dominance as the fourth quarter progressed in the same vein.

In the eighth minute of the final period, Crediton self-destructed and several unenforced errors opened the door for the Cowboys, who kept their nerve and finish- ed strongly to cap an 82-63 win.

In the ladies’ competition, Weymouth Huskies suffered an 83-32 semi-final defeat to eventual winners, the Newton Abbot Pacers.
