WITH the new season getting underway Weymouth Basketball Club is looking to recruit prospective players, officials and volunteers.

As well as player recruitment, the club is also keen to involve those members of the community who might have an interest in becoming officials or coaches and are able to help out the club in other ways.

The club offers three men’s teams, one ladies’ team and four different age groups for youngsters and it’s easy for anyone with a desire to play to find a platform for either fitness and/or competitive performance.

It has not only been home grown players from South Dorset that have been attracted to the club, in recent years it has seen many international members from Latvia, Germany, the Philippines, Holland, Poland, and Nigeria.

Club secretary Mark Talmage said: “As far as the junior teams our goal is providing an interest that can potentially steer kids off bad decision-making into a structured physical sport.

“This filters up to our adult set-up where we’re always looking for more members who are interested in an additional hobby/interest or want to take advantage of the social side of the club.

“We understand that some people may feel they are not physically fit enough to play, but we really do operate at the pace of the players, that is why we have a three-team system.

“If you’re at all interested in basketball (whatever age/skill) and wish to get back into the sport, feel free to come along to a training session and chat with one of our coaches.

“Alternatively, if you are a local business looking to invest in a community project please contact us through our website weymouthbasketball.co.uk.”
