CHARLTON DOWN 227-9 (20pts) beat BERE REGIS SECONDS 42 (4pts) by 185 runs

TEENAGE sensation Sam Roles put Bere Regis Seconds in a spin as Charlton Down returned to winning ways in Dorset League Division Six.

The 17-year-old snared 7-7 off just five overs and also scored 55 with the bat in what was a fine individual display.

Jae Miller also excelled in the 185-run victory with an excellent knock of 88. The in-form pair put on 116 for the opening wicket until Roles was trapped leg before by 16-year-old Sach (2-41).

Suddenly Bere could sense an opportunity, but despite pegging their opponents back to 135-4 they still could not remove Miller.

The talented opener batted with care to bring up his half-century and in Jack Eveleigh (38 not out) he found a willing partner to continue the onslaught.

The pair put on 50 together before Miller eventually fell to Barnes (3-49), who snared three wickets in an over to offer his side a glimmer of hope.

Andy Kent (2-27) then joined in on the act before Eveleigh and Nick Voss added 28 more runs at the end to take their side to a competitive score of 227-9.

In reply, Bere desperately needed to get off to a good start but they immediately found runs hard to come by due to the unerring accuracy of Voss and James Pretty.

Only 16 runs came off the first 12 overs and from there Charlton were always in control.

Three wickets had also fallen during that time courtesy of a stunning diving catch from Sid Dunford and a brace for Roles, who then went on to decimate the middle and lower order in devastating fashion.

A few boundaries took the score from 21-7 to 42-9 before Jacob Holland eventually wrapped up the rout with his first ball of the innings.

Charlton captain Pete Tucker said: “It was a return to normal after a bit of a blip the previous week against Puddletown.

“The senior batsmen took charge and Jae played so well helping the younger lads as they batted with him.

“The bowlers were also superb, producing a brilliant line and length, and in the process conceded just three wides.

“Sam produced an extraordinary spell and to be on a hat-trick twice was a fantastic effort.”
